Plastic Floor Liners & Water Drinkers
Hello Mother Hen, I have lost my paper catalogue and yet I cannot find the plastic floor liners anywhere on the website. Mine now has a slight tear which isn't bad going for almost three months. I think they came in packs of five so that should see me good for a year. I'm in the middle of ordering things on the website, including a new drinking fountain as we broke our glass jar that came with the kit. Well, I say we, but that's me being kind. Which is why I'm going for a full metal one otherwise the inevitable will happen. We currently have a preserving jar pressed into service but it's a poor fit and anyway I want it back as I'm going to pickle some lemons. I think the size that came with the kit was half-a-gallon. The four hens have never drunk anything like that so eventually we stopped filling it up to the top. Might they do in the summer? My books say how much the drink but regrettably in metric terms. I'm toying with the idea of buying a one-gallon one as then maybe if we go away for the weekend they'd have enough water. But, I need to know how high is a one-gallon one? I find it a llittle awkward to hang the half-gallon one on the hook and our routine now is that he hangs it and then I adjust it so it is nice and straight. Might a one-gallon one touch the ground? Hi Helen, we can send the pack of plastic liners, I will give you a call next week.
You could go for a metal I gallon it is not too tall to go beneath the ark.
You will find the birds will drink more in the summer, as we tell people to ad lib feed we always like too much water than not enough. The problem with the metal drinkers they do not hang, but if you are finding it difficult to put the other one on the hook it could be easier for you.
The down side of the drinker being on the ground is that they are forever scratching grass and mud into the water. You can stand it on a floor tile that will help.
